There was once a time when a bride's shoe options were heels, generic ballet slippers, or bare feet. No more. Modern ballerina and other flats are as unique as the bride herself.

A wedding and all the associated activities can be a long affair. What could be worse than having your feet hurt through the whole thing? Many a bride will tell you she spent the evening in her stocking feet, which is a shame considering how much time, energy, and money you are going to put into the choice of your wedding shoes. The last thing you want is to leave them under the table while you make your rounds and dance ’til you drop.

That means your criteria must include comfort, as well as beauty. And, of course, the shoes should complement your gown. Here are some of the ways to ensure that you accomplish all three requirements:

Stay flat. Select a pretty pair of flats, slippers, or a low-heeled bridal shoe.

Double up. Consider two sets of shoes: a more formal pair for the wedding ceremony, photographs, and grand entrance at the reception; and a pair of flats or wedding tennis shoes to slip into when you arrive at the reception. Wedding tennis shoes? We’re kidding right? Wrong. You can buy wedding tennis shoes or decorate plain white ones with crystals, ribbon, and lace. They are very “in,” and you can’t beat them for sheer comfort!
